Ultrasound is a gentle, non-invasive imaging technique that allows us to view your pet’s internal organs in real time. It helps us identify abnormalities such as tumors, organ enlargement, or fluid buildup. Because it doesn’t involve radiation and usually doesn’t require anesthesia, it’s a low-stress diagnostic option for pets. We often use ultrasound during the initial staging process to help determine the extent of cancer and whether it has spread.
In addition to diagnosis, ultrasound allows us to perform minimally invasive procedures such as guiding fine-needle aspirates or collecting samples of fluid or urine. These samples are then sent to a diagnostic lab for further evaluation. The information gained from ultrasound helps us make informed decisions about your pet’s condition and next steps in their treatment plan, ensuring we stay focused on both accuracy and comfort.
